NOTES;

  1. Obvious Risk was acquired locally, having had one run over hurdles for previous owner / trainer / rider Mrs M Kendall; he was 8th of 21 in a 2m 110yd maiden hurdle on good to soft ground at Newcastle on February 27th, 1995. Prior to that, he had run several times on the flat at distances of around 7f, gaining something of a reputation as a thinker. Tragically, the injury he sustained in the John Wade Final at Sedgefield was to prove fatal. 
  2. Triona’s Hope, Swiftly Supreme and Supreme Comfort are further Irish-bred horses. Neither of the latter two had raced under Rules (if at all) in Ireland. Triona’s Hope, however, ran once at Killarney on July 18th, 1995, finishing 10th of 11 in a 2m 1f INH Flat Race on yielding to soft ground
  3. Swiftly Supreme holds the dubious distinction of being the only horse ever to be sold out of Ted Caine’s yard. After her sole appearance for Ted at Sedgefield in April 1997, she moved to Tom Cuthbert. Swiftly Supreme ran four races for her new connections; 9th of 10 in a 2m 1f Carlisle bumper (10/11/97, good/firm), 6th of 15 in a 2m Musselburgh bumper (03/02/98, good, good/soft in places), 11th of 16 in a 2m intermediate bumper at Catterick (17/12/98), and 8th of 9 in a 2m 110 yard novices’ hurdle at Kelso (22/01/99, heavy). On all occasions Tristan Davidson rode. The horse has since moved into the point-to-point field.
  4. Marks Refrain collapsed and died of a heart attack while exercising at home some time after his last race at Kelso.
